Definition of Mathematics
Math Studies:
1.) Amount
I feel that Amount is important to the study of math. During my other math classes we did a lot of work with graphing and realating graphs with equations. In many of the classes our teachers would give us an equation and we would have to solve the equation and graph our answers. On this topic I also did many word problems. For example, when I was younger I had to find out who had what amount and if they got some taken away how many would they have after. (http://www.dpi.state.wi.us/dpi/standards/mathglos.html on this site the amount is stated many times and they give examples of amount used and I fell that this is a major part of math.)
2) Arrangement and Patterns
My old math classes did work with arrangement and patterns as well. For example, we would sort numbers out from smallest to greatest. And if there was a pattern of numbers and then there was a missing number then we would use clues or use the pattern to find the missing number. Therefore I think that Arrangement is a big part of the study of math and I think that everyone needs to know how to locate a pattern. (http://hillside.net/patterns/ this site states many times patterns and shows many patterns. Also numbers are missing and the reader is supposed to fill in the pattern.)
3.) Equations
I think that everything in math is revolving around equations. Everything has to do with equations in math. Rather it is finding a variable or solving the equations. In all of my math classes we have used many equations. Many times there would be a word problem and you would have to find the numbers through equations. Then you have to put the answer in words.(http://www.sosmath.com/diffeq/diffeq.html this site uses many types of equations. And they define the kinds of equations that they talk about. Therefore, equations is very important in the study of math.)
4.) Measurmen
Math is also has to do with measuring things. Many mathematicians measure many things and they need to fill in dimensions for squares and many other shapes. Many of the other times they will need to take a word problem and find the dimensions through equations. Therefore I feel that measurements is a big part of the study of math.(http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/ this site talks all about units and measuring things. Many people that study math need to know units and need to know how to measure things.)

I think that this picture best describes the study of math because it has all the topics I touched on while explaining math. First, Amount this shows amount because a graph has a legend and it show how much something is worth. Secondly, this graph is also arranged and organized. the shapes represent many things and they are each a different value. Thirdly, this graph had to have had an equation and had to have been solved to get this graph. First you get a problem and then solve with an equation and then graph. Finally, this graph represents measurement because the person who made the graph had to measure up the points and graph each and every little dot. Therefore, I think that this graph best describes the study of math.
In conclusion, math is the study of all these things. I feel math is very important in this world therefore many people need to know how to use and do all of these things above.
